WEEK 2: The Miseducation of Cameron Post by Emily M. Danforth

Book cover of The Miseducation of Cameron Post, a girl in cowboy boots laying on a round hay bale“When Cameron Post’s parents die suddenly in a car crash, her shocking first thought is relief. Relief they’ll never know that, hours earlier, she had been kissing a girl” (from book jacket).

This is the beautifully written story of Cameron Post, a teenage girl and cinephile growing up in rural eastern Montana who loses her parents in a fatal car crash around the same time she realizes that she likes kissing girls. Add to the mix a new guardian in the form of born-again Evangelical Aunt Ruth, an old-fashioned grandmother, and sexy cowgirl Coley Taylor who just moved to town, and Cameron’s in a hard spot. Read this excellent debut novel by Emily Danforth to find out what happens to Cameron when others start to notice her interest in girls. Can she have the courage to live out her life on her own terms? And, can her community accept that?
