Call for OYAN Raffle volunteers!

For those of you who aren’t familiar with OYAN’s raffle, this is our divisions major fundraising event of the year and it takes place at the OLA conference each year.

We’re looking for volunteers to assist with the following:

  • soliciting donations from small businesses, event centers, etc. (we have a list we’ll be working from, so you don’t need to brainstorm ideas!)
  • tabling at the OYAN booth at OLA (this entails talking about the raffle, why OYAN is important, and handling money from raffle ticket purchases)
  • floor help with ticket sales (circulating around the exhibit hall to ask folks if they’d like to support OYAN by entering the raffle. Will require cash handling!)

If you are at all interested in any of these things, please email oyanpastchair@olaweb.org

Nominate Someone for the 2021 OYEA Award

With the OLA conference drawing near, it is time to celebrate excellence in teen services. With the challenging year we’ve had and the way you and your libraries have risen to the occasion, there is no shortage of worthy recipients. To that end, we are soliciting nominations for the OYEA! award which will be presented at the OYAN reception during the OLA conference. As the 2020 conference was cancelled, this year we will have a double award with last year’s and this year’s winner being presented with the award!

Please take some time to nominate an individual, library, organization, program or initiative that has made a positive and significant contribution to teens in libraries in the state of Oregon.

The eligibility requirements are as follows:

  1. The individual, library, organization, or initiative must reside or operate primarily in Oregon
  2. Only living persons are eligible for the award.
  3. If a program or initiative is nominated, it must have occurred within the previous or current nomination year.
  4. If the nominee is a person, they do not need to be an active member of OYAN.

*Preference will given to nominees that are supported by a letter of recommendation by a teen*

The deadline is Friday, March 26th, 2021.

Submit the following information for your nomination:

  • Contact information for the nominee.
  • The nominee’s name and/or program title.
  • Description of nominee’s positive and significant contributions to teens in libraries in the state of Oregon.
  • Any supporting materials.

9 a.m.-4 p.m.

Wednesday, April 15

OLA Preconference,Eugene, Oregon

Fee: $70

A finished product on YouTube looks so easy, but a lot goes into creating a tightly woven, engaging video to highlight a library or library service. Experienced professionals from Salem’s CCTV will go over the general principles (and pitfalls) of filmmaking before letting attendees loose in teams to give it a try – using easily accessible tools (Flip cameras, cell phones, and Windows Movie Maker) to plan, create, and rough edit 60-90 second book trailers. The day will also include a discussion of the pros and cons of various video distribution platforms.

We’d love to see you for this excellent pre-conference and at the OLA Conference Thursday, April 16 and Friday, April 17!
